Gender dysphoria
The University of Oxford Equality and Diversity Unit, Training, resources and glossary [accessed February 2020], defines gender dysphoria as: ‘A medical condition when a person assigned to one gender (on the basis of their physical characteristics at birth) experiences a deep discomfort with that gender and identifies as belonging to another gender.’
Stonewall suggests gender dysphoria is: ‘Used to describe when a person experiences discomfort or distress because there is a mismatch between their sex assigned at birth and their gender identity. This is also the clinical diagnosis for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable with the sex they were assigned at birth.’ Ref https://www.stonewall.org.uk/help-advice/faqs-and-glossary/glossary-terms
